Amitav began his career as a trial counsel before the District Court at Lucknow where he handled civil and commercial disputes pertaining to tenancy, conveyance deeds, lease agreements, and suits for declaration, injunctions and specific performance. His working as a trial counsel endowed him with deep understanding of the procedural laws, laws related to evidence, contract, transfer of movable and immovable properties, and Specific Relief Act. Later he joined the Chambers of Aakash Prasad as an associate counsel where he handled complex commercial disputes related to telecom, real estate, construction agreements, insolvency and electricity. At A and A, Amitav serves as an equity partner and heads the disputes team that deals with matters related to electricity, arbitration, insolvency and white-collar crime, and regularly appears and represents clients, both private and state, before the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts, Tribunals and Commissions.
Representative Work:
- Appeared and represented the State Nodal Agency for renewable energy resources in the State of U.P., Generation Company (both private and state) and private consumers in disputes arising out of PPAs, tariff regulations and Supply Code, before the UPERC and APTEL.
- Appeared and represented the India’s largest ATM and Cash management company in criminal proceedings pertaining to cash related frauds and cheating both before the High Court as well as the subordinate courts.
- Appeared and represented the India’s largest telecom company and one of India’s leading independent passive telecom infrastructure providers in their tower related disputes before the High Court and various statutory authorities.
- Appears and represents one of the leading Real Estate Management and Investment service providers in India
- Advised a Dutch entity in land transfer transaction further to a Kingdom of Netherland- Republic of India partnership project.
- Handled the pre-arbitral assessment of disputes of a State Agency that handles the constructions of expressway in the State of U.P.
